What is the difference between an e-Visa and a traditional visa?
The biggest difference between an eVisa and a traditional visa is the procedure. Previously, passengers who would like to apply for a traditional visa had to physically visit the Embassy or consulate, complete the application form, provide the necessary paperwork, and have an interview. However, citizens of 251 eligible countries have been able to apply for an Ethiopian eVisa online since June 2018. This helps the visa application process to be smoother and more convenient than ever before.
To obtain a traditional visa, applicants have to wait for at least a few weeks and prepare a ton of paperwork. While with an Ethiopian visa, travelers can receive their visa in a maximum of 03 days, with a few documents required. International travelers can benefit from the Ethiopia eVisa if they are traveling to Ethiopia primarily for leisure, tourist activities, and to see friends and family. Applicants for ordinary visas should travel to Ethiopia for reasons other than tourism.
In addition, the validity of an Ethiopian electronic visa is shorter than a regular one. An eVisa is valid for up to 03 months from the intended arrival date specified in the application form, allowing its holders to remain in the country for 30 days or 90 days, based on the type of visa they obtain.
